ISP students smiling, student speaking at Panamun and cross country team

Message from the Director

Sometimes I almost have to pinch myself when I go for my morning walk around ISP. Observing children rushing out of the bus to go to class, seeing teachers welcome their students as they enter their rooms and watching interactions between students who are avidly engaging with one another. The cultural encounters that take place on a daily basis at ISP support the recent surveys I sent out to the children in our school. Some of the information that most impressed me was the fact that our children feel safe at school, find the lesson content relevant, purposeful, and engaging and have teachers who are knowledgeable and manage the classroom environment well. Our students feel deeply respected and able to approach teachers for help. There were of course areas that we need to work on, the amount of homework and transitioning from one part of the school to another being two areas that stood out. As a result of these surveys we will be working on these challenges and will feedback to children and parents alike as plans are put in place.

I hope many of you were able to attend the workshop on digital citizenship that was given this past Wednesday. Here is a useful article for parents in helping children navigate this area successfully at home.

This week it was World Children’s Day and I would like to share this quote from Malala Yousafzai a Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate:

’To every child - I dream of a world where you can laugh, dance, sing, learn, live in peace and be happy.’

It was a quote that made me once again be thrilled to be part of the ISP community. Next week Les Miserables will be performed by our students, providing an opportunity for collaboration and teamwork for these students and giving many of them the chance to excel. All teachers will be attending at different times and I hope as many students as possible are able to witness this wonderful show. I look forward to seeing you there. Being part of a performance such as this is a life-shaping event and one children will always look back to with a sense of achievement. Let us all enjoy the show!

Warm regards,

Viki Stiebert
