OCTOBER 18-29 NEWS FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Dear High School Parents,

We hope all of you have looked over your son’s/daughter’s report card.  They were sent home on Friday.  Please feel free to contact any teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

The next two weeks will be full of activities for the High School. Our students have been preparing for our annual PANAMUN Conference.  We invite all our parents and ISP community to join us during this impressive student-lead debating event.  Our Volleyball Teams will be departing to Guatemala for the AASCA Tournament.  We will have a special send off for them.  Finally, HS Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place next Wednesday and Thursday.  We encourage parents to bring their son/daughter to the conference.  We believe that we are a team composed of the student the teacher and the parents.  Please contact Sharon as soon as possible to schedule your conferences.

These are some of the events for the next two weeks:

On Tuesday the General Assembly will take place in our own gymnasium at 6:00PM.  The Art department will be exhibiting some of our students’ best work in the Elementary, the Middle School, and the High School.  Furthermore the musical talents of our Elementary students and the combined Middle School/High School Band will be showcased.  We invite you to come enjoy the artistic abilities of our ISP students and stay for this very informative General Assembly.

Our annual Panama Model United Nations (PANAMUN) Conference begins on Wednesday, October 20 and continues through Friday, October 22.  ISP will be welcoming students from 6 Panamanian schools including Balboa Academy, Caribbean International School in Colon, Escuela Episcopal, San Marcos, Oxford School, Oxford International School, and Einstein School.  The American School of Mexico City will also be participating in this outstanding event.  On Wednesday the delegates will be lobbying hard to seek support and consensus for their resolutions.  On Thursday, the opening ceremonies will begin at 7:30 and the actual introduction and debating of the resolutions will take place.  On Friday morning the final voting on the resolutions takes place.  At noon all delegates will gather for the final General Assembly and honor the recipients of the “Best Delegate” Awards.  We will close with a delicious buffet luncheon provided by our PTA.  Thank you again to Mrs. De la Garza and her hard working PTA members.

The Volleyball teams depart Wednesday, October 27 for the AASCA Tournament. Eleven girls, ten boys, Mr. Cumberbatch, Mr. Thomas, Mr. Vinke and Mrs. Vinke will be traveling to Guatemala to participate in the volleyball championships this year.   The student council will hold a special spirit week beginning on Monday.  On Tuesday afternoon we will have a special one hour assembly to send off our teams.  Last week end our girl’s team finished a strong second place and the boys came in third in our ISP Volleyball Tournament.  We thank all parents who came to support our teams.  We think our teams are ready to give their best at the AASCA tournament.  We wish them the best of luck!

On Wednesday and Thursday, October 27-28, the High School invites all parents to join us for the first semester teacher-parent conferences.  We encourage all parents to meet with their son/daughter’s teachers, especially if the there are any academic concerns.  Please call Sharon right away to schedule appointments with your student’s teachers.  High School classes will end at 12:00noon on both Wednesday and Thursday.  Please make plans accordingly. Parents are encouraged to bring their son/daughter along to the meeting.

Every third Wednesday all teachers are available after 12:30 to meet with any parent who has a question or concern.  We look forward to seeing you at the conferences or during the monthly meeting times.
