Planning to Serve
What do we think needs to be done or should be changed?
What can we do to help with this?
Brainstorm-what are our skills or interests?
Who can help us?
Find out what agencies are already working on this problem. Ask if we can help them. Let them know what we’d like to do. (Some agencies have speakers who will come out to talk to the students about what they do and why their services are necessary.)
Decide on a project.
What will we accomplish? (E.g. “We’ll set up a tutoring program for second graders.”)
Resources |
Money, tools, transportation, books, rooms, permissions, etc. Make a list of what we need and figure out how (if) we can get them.
Training |
Are there new skills we need to learn? Who can teach us? When?
Recruitment |
How can we get other people involved?
Goals |
Make a list of each thing that needs to be done and assign a student to be responsible for doing it. Set a date by which it should be finished. Schedule enough meetings to keep things on track.

P.R. |
Send information about our project to newspaper, cable or local TV and radio stations, put on the Internet, etc. Telling others about our projects lets them know about the problems that need to be solved.
Reflection |
Can be verbal, through a journal, art work, etc. What did we learn? How did it make us feel? What was the thing we’ll remember most?
Recognition |
Let’s not forget to pat ourselves on the back for a job well done!
