History 11-12 (SL or HL)
Pre-requisites: World History I and II
This is a two year course which meets the requirements for both Standard and Higher Level History.
Students will develop and master analytical skills while primarily studying the
history of the 20th century. The course is organized around a series of topics
which coincide with IB assessments and the externally administered
exam. They include:
1. Peacekeeping and peacemaking, international relations from 1918 to 1936
2. The Arab-Israeli conflict from 1945-1979
3. The Cold War (a topic that will include coverage of the Russian Revolution,
1917 through Stalin and the causes,course and consequence of World War II).
4. Nationalist and independence movements in Africa and Asia and post-1945
Central and Eastern European states.
5. Aspects of the history of the Americas.
6. Developing a hypothesis to evaluate and formulate conclusions through
in-depth research.
The research
project for this course will be drafted in the second semester of the first
year. It will be finalized in thefirst quarter of the second year.
