The International Baccalaureate A2 English course is a two-year pre-university program of studies aimed at students who already have a high level of competence in English as their second language.  English A2 is based firmly on the study of both language and literature and are studied in equal proportions.  The main focus of this course is on the reinforcement and refinement of language skills, rather than language acquisition.  The literature studied is all originally written in English.  A literary option is studied, as well as a cultural option as language is studied within a cultural context.  Cultural options include Language and Culture and Media and Culture.  Students will also be given the opportunity to explore the cultures of the language, and to make connections between other languages and cultures with which they are familiar.  They will thus be able to use the language for purposes and in situations involving sophisticated discussion, argument and debate.
