Course Description
Grade(s): 11-12 Level: IB SL Credit(s): 2 in Mathematics
Prerequisite(s): Algebra II/Trigonometry
To
enroll in IB Mathematics SL, it is recommended that
candidates have a grade of at least a B In Algebra II / Trigonometry.
This
two-year course is designed to provide a background of mathematical thought and
technical ability for students not wishing to take IB Mathematics HL. The course
provides a sound mathematical basis for those students
planning to pursue further studies in such fields as chemistry, economics,
geography and business administration.
It is a
demanding program, covering a variety of mathematical topics and requires
considerable background knowledge. The course covers topics including: discrete
mathematics (logarithms, sequences and series), algebra
(linear and quadratic equations, inequalities and functions), geometry and
trigonometry (identities, solving equations), probabilities and statistics,
functions and calculus (application of differentiation and integration), vectors
and matrices.
