Course Description

Grade(s): 11-12                        Level: IB SL                        Credit(s): 2 in Mathematics

Prerequisite(s): Algebra II/Trigonometry

To have the best chance of success in lB Math  SL it is recommended that candidates have a grade of at least a B In Algebra II / Trig.

This two-year program .is designed to provide a background of mathematical thought and reasonable level of technical ability for those not wishing to take lB Higher Level Math. It is intended to provide a sound mathematical basis for those students planning to pursue further studies in such fields as chemistry, economics, geography and business administration. It is a demanding program since it contains a variety of mathematical topics and requires some background knowledge. The course covers several topics: discrete mathematics (logarithms, sequences and series), algebra (linear and quadratic equations, inequalities and functions), geometry and trigonometry (identities, solving equations), probabilities and statistics, functions and calculus (application of differentiation and integration), vectors and matrices.
