This course is recommended for students with prior experience in the learning and use of the Spanish language.

Spanish B will provide students with the opportunity to communicate correctly and effectively in a range of situations and contexts, as well as to encourage the comprehension of the language and culture of Hispanic countries.  IB Spanish B will develop the student’s skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing through the study of a wide range of literary and non-literary texts, tapes, movies and programs.  A primary goal of this course is to develop the student ability to able to comprehend and clearly express ideas in Spanish.  Social, cultural and academic objectives are presented in a balanced manner.   There is both a written and oral assessment.  The IB examination at the end of the two-year course is assessed externally.  The oral assessment is based on class activities and is moderated externally.  Although SL and HL students will study a similar program, the HL level requires a more rapid rate of written and aural expression during the final assessment.
