Teaching and Learning

Academic Excellence

The International School of Panama sets a high academic standard. A challenging curriculum and highly qualified teachers have made ISP a leading school in the region. Our curriculum is designed to meet the educational program needs of both the expatriate and host-country communities and residents in Panama. The language of instruction is English, and students who do not speak English as their first language receive additional support through our Department of Student Services.

What We Teach

The elementary curriculum stresses skill development and is based on rigorous international standards. The middle school program is designed to refine these skills in the context of increasingly sophisticated content, while catering to the developmental needs of pre-adolescents. The ISP High School offers a highly academic college preparatory program leading to an International Baccalaureate diploma, U.S. high school diploma, and/or Panamanian diploma.

Curriculum Standards

Our curriculum standards are developed by our own faculty subject area teams based upon the best research and practices from around the world. We thoroughly review each subject area on a five-year cycle, and the review process allows for enhancements and adaptations to be made throughout the cycle. ISP subject area teachers and specialists work collaboratively to design units and assessments.

International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme "aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge - students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically."

The IB course of study is the signature and culminating piece of ISP’s educational program. More than half of our high school students pursue the IB Diploma - a demanding course of study including six subjects studied for two full years: the Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and CAS - Creativity, Action, and Service. It takes a great deal of hard work to earn the IB diploma, and it is a tremendous achievement when completed.
