Composting at ISP

Hi, my name is Maxine and I am in 12th grade

Why did you start working on this project?

I started working on this composting project because we have a lot of food waste at school and our soil is very bad, and I knew that with food waste we could make compost because we have a lot of brown waste as well like dry leaves so when you mix these two together you get compost and compost can really increase soil capacity making it better for soil so plants can grow better which really is something that we need.

How does this align with the ISP value of looking after the planet?

Compost helps ISP look after the planet because by being more sustainable we’re wasting less food, and we’re increasing our biocapacity of the campus because as more plants can grow with the compost that we’re helping make (and we’re also using waste) this is just our little step of making our campus greener.

What’s next?

Possible plans for the future are getting another bucket because we have a lot of brown waste and the green waste like the kitchen scraps are a limiting factor and so if we were to get more green waste for example from families who would want to bring us their green waste in a bucket every week we could make a lot more compost and have some planting projects everywhere around the school.

WE LOOK AFTER THE PLANET AS WELL AS WE LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER #thereisnoplacelikeisp
